Platform Note

Five reasons sponsors use a manager of record.

Sponsor focuses on capital and thesis. IMX runs the regulated manager. The division of labour is the whole point.

A sponsor with a defined mandate has two routes into the GCC: build a standalone regulated manager, or operate through one that already exists. Building means a licence application, governance, compliance infrastructure, service-provider onboarding and headcount, all before the first close. Operating through a manager of record means the mandate starts inside an established framework. Five reasons sponsors choose the second route:

01 — Speed

Launch faster than building a standalone GCC manager. On the IMX platform the target is first close in ninety days, subject to approved mandate, sponsor diligence, fund documents, service-provider onboarding and investor KYC.

02 — Cost

Avoid duplicating legal, compliance, governance and operating infrastructure that already exists inside the platform.

03 — Compliance

Operate inside an established manager framework from day one, rather than assembling one under deadline pressure.

04 — Credibility

Present to investors and counterparties through a local regulated manager, with a named service stack behind it: Carta Middle East, Grant Thornton, AX Law, AIG.

05 — Access

Connect capital and sector expertise to GCC deal flow and national priority sectors.

Who this serves

  • International fund managers and GPs: GCC presence without building a standalone regulated manager.
  • Family offices and HNW principals: bespoke vehicles, co-investment SPVs, direct programmes.
  • Sovereign and development capital: mandate-led deployment into national priority sectors.
  • Strategic corporates: balance-sheet capital deployed through a regulated fund.
  • Specialist sector funds: sector expertise plus IMX's regulated GCC platform.

The trade-off is real and worth stating: the sponsor gives up owning the manager. What the sponsor keeps is the mandate, the investor relationships, the investment decisions and the economics agreed at the outset. For most of the five audiences above, that trade favours the platform.
